Nearly eighty years ago, Mrs. Biehl bought 13 turkeys. This was the beginning of many decades of poultry farming. Many of her sons went on to start their own poultry farms. One of them was James “Mike” Biehl. He owned a few different farms in Antrim County before he, his wife Charlyn, and their six children moved to what is now “Circle B Turkey Ranch” on 131 in Mancelona. (The “circle” comes from the circle drive – not the John Wayne movie.) Mike built many of the barns that are still standing today with his own two hands. In 1977, one of the six Biehl children – also James “Jim” Biehl – became a partner on the farm. After just a few years, in 1980, Jim bought the farm from his father. He and his wife, Kim, raised three children on the farm, all of whom still come home to help with the turkeys every year. Jim and Kim now have two granddaughters, Mia (age 8) and Ellie (age 5) who enjoy “helping” on the farm.
